| Artist Notes: |
Several elements in this portrait work together to create a sense of warmth and softness which perfectly describes Virginia. The softness and volume of her hair are reflected in the delicate feathers, and the choice of lighting tends to diminish and soften the effects of aging.
The warm, red colors add warmth and vibrancy to her skin tones. It was an interesting challenge to keep the intensity of the strong reds throughout the composition while keeping them from dominating the painting.
Many viewers find Virginia's eyes to be the most intriguing and compelling aspect of her portrait. Her eyes convey an enduring love of life and people that shines through in spite of decades of physical suffering and debilitating pain. I'm honored to have been able tp paint the portrait of such a beautiful and gracious woman. |
