| Artist Notes: |
This portrait of my oldest son Hunter, here 9 years old, is special because it is the first portrait I ever painted. Keep in mind that I spent years studying oil painting techniques and painting landscapes, so it isn't like I began painting portraits from scratch.
I was surprised at how well this portrait turned out, and after painting it I wished that I had posed Hunter a bit more formally wearing something nicer than a white T-shirt! But after a while I realized that the simplicity and relaxed nature of the composition really portrays Hunter well, particularly his mischievousness and playfulness! I ended up painting my other boy Walker's portrait the same way. |
